The Crossvine (pictured above), one of Schertz’ newest additions, is a master planned community and is in the south portion of the city. The Crossvine is a 500+ acre community with unique neighborhoods that are designed to attract people in all stages of life – professionals, young families, empty-nesters, and retirees. Residential development at the Crossvine will include traditional single-family homes, garden homes, town-homes, multifamily clusters, and independent and assisted living facilities. The project will integrate commercial areas comprised of neighborhood services, retail, municipal, and medical uses.

Schertz offers a variety of 1-, 2-, and 3-bedroom apartment homes, many of which are pet-friendly. Military Community
Randolph Air Force Base, located adjacent to Schertz, serves as headquarters for both the Air Education and Training Command (AETC) as well as the Air Force Personnel Center (AFPC). The Base is known as the ‘Showplace of the Air Force’ thanks to its Spanish Colonial Revival Style architecture (in which all structures – including hangars – were constructed). Schertz has been ranked fifth on NerdWallet.com’s list of best cities for retired military. Veterans, who make up about 22 percent of Schertz’s population, have access to services throughout the region.

Currently the City has 21 municipal-owned park locations and recreational facilities which, combined, make up a total of 374 acres. Schertz is home to many of our regional recreational programs including the Buffalo Valley Youth Association, Schertz’ local YMCA, the Schertz Senior Center, and the Greater Randolph Area Youth Soccer Association. Continued growth in our community has brought about many new facilities and additions including the Schertz Skate Park, the Dog Park, the new regional Schertz Soccer Complex with 12 regulation-sized fields, and the brand new community natatorium at our local YMCA facility.

Maintaining our collective community heritage is important. The City is proud to host multiple large events throughout the calendar year that celebrate Schertz and the community who make it better on a daily basis.
